Espresso tools for the Gaggia Classic Pro (58mm)

If you own a Gaggia Classic Pro, a Classic Evo or an older Gaggia Classic, your portafilter takes 58 mm tools. That is the size on this page. You do not need to measure anything.

The Classic uses a commercial-spec 58 mm group — the same size as machines costing five times as much. Anything made for 58 mm fits it.

The kits, for the Gaggia Classic

  • The Starter Kit — €49.99 · WDT tool with magnetic stand, magnetic dosing ring, puck screen and a calibrated spring tamper. €77.96 bought one at a time.
  • The Barista Kit — €79.99 · the same WDT tool and stand, magnetic dosing ring, sintered puck screen, palm tamper and the five-piece cleaning brush set. €111.95 separately.
  • The Full Pro Kit — €179.99 · all ten tools plus the solid wood tamping station. €260.90 separately.

Every link above opens the kit with 58mm already selected.

Two things to do before any of this

  • Switch to a single-wall basket. The pressurised basket the machine ships with generates crema at the outlet hole rather than in the coffee, which masks everything you do to the puck. Distribution tools do very little inside one.
  • Replace the tamper in the box. It is light plastic and undersized, and it cannot give you a level bed however carefully you press.

Why the Classic specifically needs this

The Classic has no grinder in it, so whatever your grinder does to the coffee arrives in the basket untouched. Most affordable grinders clump, and a clump is a dense spot water goes around rather than through — which is why one shot runs sour and the next sprays sideways. Ring on, stir with the needles, tamp level, screen on. About sixty seconds, the same way every morning.

What it will not do

It will not fix stale beans, it will not change your pressure profile, and it is not a substitute for the OPV or PID mods if you have decided to go down that road. It fixes the bed of coffee — the one part of the shot you build by hand, every single time.

No size to choose

WDT tools, milk pitchers, shot glasses, brushes, the dosing spoon and the scale fit every machine. So does the Latte Art Set.

Buy a scale before any of this

If you are not weighing your dose and your shot, none of the rest is measurable — the grind, the tamp and the beans all end up blamed for each other. Ours is €39.99, but any accurate 0.1 g scale does the job.
